More than four in 10 APAC organisations now rank digital sovereignty among their top business priorities driving technology investment.
Businesses across Asia Pacific are placing increasing emphasis on digital sovereignty as concerns surrounding artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, regulatory compliance, and cross-border data management gain prominence, according to new research commissioned by Expereo.
The study found that 38% view digital sovereignty as a top or high priority, exceeding the global average of 33%, while 43% rank it among the key drivers of technology investment, compared with 30% globally
More than half (51%) of APAC organisations prioritising digital sovereignty want greater control over sensitive and strategic data, broadly in line with 53% globally.
The findings suggested governance, risk, and compliance considerations are becoming increasingly important as organisations scale AI and cloud initiatives. Among APAC organisations that are not yet using AI or are only beginning implementation, 60% cited security, data privacy, compliance, or digital sovereignty concerns as a major barrier to adoption. Meanwhile, 54% of technology leaders said AI could introduce significant new security risks.
The report also highlighted the key factors influencing digital sovereignty strategies. Regulatory compliance across jurisdictions was cited by 45% of APAC organisations, while 38% pointed to geopolitical risk mitigation, and 33% highlighted concerns related to cross-border data transfers and jurisdiction.
As AI investment accelerates, many organisations are also reassessing whether their technology infrastructure is equipped to support future demands. While 61% of APAC organisations plan to prioritise AI and machine learning investments, including GenAI and agentic AI, over the next 12 months, only 9% believe their network infrastructure is fully prepared to support new technology initiatives.
A further 54% said their infrastructure is mostly ready but still contains gaps, while 30% expect upgrades or replacements will soon be necessary.
To thrive in an AI-driven environment, 57% of APAC organisations said they need more flexible and scalable networks, while 46% cited the need to improve resilience and reliability. A further 37% said they require networks that can optimise cloud connectivity.
