Hong Kong to extend MTR services and implement road closures for Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations

The public are advised to plan ahead and pay attention to public transport operating hours during the festive period.

Hong Kong will implement special traffic and transport arrangements from 24 to 26 September to facilitate Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations, including the annual Tai Hang Fire Dragon Dance and other festive activities across the city.

According to the Transport Department (TD), road closure and traffic diversion arrangements will be implemented in the vicinity of Tai Hang throughout the three-day period.

Special traffic arrangements will also be implemented on 25 and 26 September in Causeway Bay, The Peak, Aberdeen, Pok Fu Lam, Repulse Bay, Shek O, Tuen Mun, Tsuen Wan, and Ma On Shan. Some parking spaces, taxi stands, and public light bus stands in the above areas will then be temporarily suspended.

To accommodate increased travel demand on Mid-Autumn Festival Day (25 September), public transport operators will enhance services.

Most MTR lines, except the Airport Express, Disneyland Resort Line, and East Rail Line services to and from Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau stations, will gradually increase service frequencies from 3pm on 25 September and extend operating hours into the early hours of 26 September.

Eleven Light Rail routes and three MTR bus routes will also operate later into the early hours of 26 September, while tram and ferry services will be strengthened subject to passenger demand.

In addition, four special franchised bus routes, i.e. route 71P, N64P, N272, and 173R, will be operated. Six bus routes and nine green minibus routes will extend service hours and adjust routing arrangements, while 44 bus routes and 14 green minibus routes will be diverted and adjust their stop locations temporarily in connection with the road closures and traffic diversion arrangements.

The TD has advised the public to use public transport wherever possible and plan journeys in advance to avoid unnecessary delays. Authorities added that traffic arrangements may be adjusted further depending on crowd and traffic conditions during the festive period.

Travellers can obtain latest information on route changes and service arrangements through radio and television announcements, the TD’s website, the ‘HKeMobility’ mobile application, or passenger notices displayed by the relevant public transport operators.
