Sea makes waves with new global digital financial services HQ in Singapore and Monee rebrand

The new headquarters will serve as a regional hub for product development, talent growth, and collaboration across Southeast Asia and Latin America.

Sea, the parent company of Shopee, has announced the opening of its new global headquarters for its digital financial services business in Singapore, on Thursday (8 May 2025).

Located at Rochester Commons, Monee’s new headquarters spans 10 floors and over 200,000 square feet, with the capacity to accommodate 1,500 personnel. The facility will house Centres of Excellence in product management, artificial intelligence, and anti-money laundering — building capabilities in areas considered essential to the future of financial services.

Designed as a homegrown innovation hub, the headquarters aims to support product development, talent growth, and cross-market collaboration across Southeast Asia and Latin America.

The space also features:

  • 100+ collaborative meeting rooms and product innovation spaces
  • A multi-purpose function hall and training areas for talent development
  • Dedicated floors for a café and gym to promote employee wellbeing and foster a sense of community

The opening coincides with the rebranding of SeaMoney to Monee, marking a strategic shift to reflect a broader focus on accessibility and ease of use across regional markets. The new name also aligns with Sea’s naming approach, seen in its e-commerce platform Shopee.

Founded in Singapore in 2009, Sea operates three core businesses: Garena (digital entertainment), Shopee (e-commerce), and Monee (digital payments and financial services). Since launching in 2014, Monee has grown its offerings to include mobile wallets, payment processing, credit, banking, and insurtech.

Expanding its regional presence, Monee has also established a digital banking group under MariBank, leveraging its position as a licensed digital bank in Singapore to support broader financial access and provide banking services throughout Southeast Asia.

Minister for Manpower and Second Minister for Trade and Industry, Dr Tan See Leng, officiated the opening ceremony, where he highlighted the significance of Monee’s expansion and Singapore’s role in the future of digital financial services.

In his speech, Minister Tan outlined how Sea's latest movement works hand-in-glove with the Government’s efforts to take the industry to its next growth peak, adding: "As we look towards a new global economic order, it is ever more important that Singapore continues to nurture and anchor enterprises like Sea – one that reinforces our position as a hub for ideas, talent and investments, and opens up new opportunities for our economy and our people."

Forrest Li, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Sea thanked the organisations' various partners for their support, saying: "The key economic and digital development agencies, such as Digital Industry Singapore (DISG), the Economic Development Board (EDB), and Enterprise Singapore (ESG) have created a thriving ecosystem for tech innovation here.

"The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) saw digitalisation as an opportunity to make our financial services sector more vibrant. Our story of homegrown success and subsequent globalisation would not have been possible without the strong support and positive environment provided by our home country."
