Backing this approach, the HR team took home a bronze win for 'Excellence in Workforce Mobility' at the HR Excellence Awards 2024, Malaysia. In this interview, the team shares with HRO about the proactive approach that made its strategy a success.
Q What was the motivation that sparked your passion & business case for pursuing your outstanding people strategy?
The motivation behind our people strategy is rooted in our belief that developing talent is the key to long-term success. At Doo Group, we strive to be the best destination for the next step in our employees' careers, offering an environment where they can grow, thrive, and make an impact. Q Looking back, can you share a challenge that you overcame in your journey of HR excellence? How did you triumph?
At Doo Group, driving employee mobility has been key to fostering a dynamic, global workforce. However, the journey has not been without its challenges. Initially, we lacked clear policies and guidelines, making it difficult to navigate the complexities of international mobility. The cross-border regulations, including work permits, visa processing, and tax obligations, required in-depth knowledge and significant time investment, often resulting in delays and confusion.
To address this, we developed comprehensive policies covering eligibility, compensation, and benefits, along with clear processes for selecting and placing employees. We also created standardised procedures, including checklists for each type of permit or visa, required documents, and processing timelines. These steps streamlined mobility, reducing administrative bottlenecks and ensuring compliance.
Our proactive approach not only enhanced employees’ experience but also enabled smoother transitions across borders. This commitment to efficiency of mobility has contributed to our recognition in the 'Excellence in Workforce Mobility' category.
Q Beyond the recognition, what impact do you hope your feature in the HR Excellence Awards would have on the HR community and manpower landscape?
Beyond the recognition, we hope our feature in the HR Excellence Awards will inspire the HR community to embrace the importance of global mobility as a key driver for talent development and organisational success. Our company’s commitment to advancing cross-regional HR practices reflects the need to balance employee empowerment with a unified, cohesive approach to mobility.
By providing employees with international training, project opportunities, and cross-border placements, we aim to not only enhance their skills but also expose them to diverse perspectives and advanced methodologies. This exchange of knowledge strengthens both individual competencies and collective expertise, helping build a workforce that is adaptable and globally minded.
We believe that by emphasising the role of employee mobility within a diverse and inclusive framework, we can foster a dynamic workforce ready to take on global challenges, while contributing to a more flexible and resilient manpower landscape across industries.
