These points aside, Minister Steven Sim also touched on an MOU on migrant workers between Malaysia and Nepal, which is expected to be finalised in the near future.
Malaysia's Minister of Human Resources Steven Sim delivered a speech in the plenary debate session at the 112th International Labor Conference.
His speech highlighted six main points, which are briefly summarised below:
- The importance of collaboration to eliminate discrimination in the workplace, especially by "big powers" against other countries.
- Malaysia's MADANI concept as the basis for a fairer social contract.
- The signing of Convention C155 by Malaysia on occupational safety and health.
- The extension of Malaysia's Social Security Organization (PERKESO, or SOCSO) disability scheme to migrant workers in accordance with the principle of justice.
- Calling for access to quality skills training as a basic right, especially for workers.
- Remembering the workers in Palestine with their families, and calling for a ceasefire.
While in Geneva, Minister Sim also met with TYT Dol Prasad Aryal, Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security of Nepal. Both leaders discussed a MOU on migrant worker between the two countries which is expected to be finalised in the near future.
