Michelle Dixon, VP of Manufacturing & Technical Operations Management for Vision Care, Alcon, said the expansion will also create high-value jobs across production, quality control, and distribution.
Alcon commemorated the grand opening of its expanded manufacturing and logistics (AML) facility in Tuas Biomedical Park, Singapore on 27 June 2025. The event, attended by HRO, was held in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of Alcon’s operations in the country.
The latest completed expansion is expected to create new high-value job opportunities, including specialised roles in production operations, quality control, and distribution management. This development supports Singapore’s broader ambition to grow its MedTech workforce, which currently comprises more than 16,000 professionals across over 400 companies.
Designed with efficiency and innovation in mind, the newly completed site integrates advanced automation, digital systems, and sustainability-focused features. These include energy and water-saving technologies, waste reduction measures, and enhanced throughput — ensuring consistent lens quality and wearer comfort, while also improving environmental performance.
Speaking at the event, Marianne Yap, Vice President of Alcon’s Quality & Regulatory Affairs for APAC, China & Japan, highlighted the facility’s use of contactless packaging technology. She noted that the entire packaging process is fully automated —100% machine-led, ensuring that the contact lenses remain untouched by human hands until they reach the end consumer.
Another highlight is the facility’s use of contactless packaging technology. According to Yap, the entire packaging process is 100% machine-led; ensuring that contact lenses remain untouched by human hands until they reach the end consumer.
During her opening address, Michelle Dixon, Vice President of Manufacturing & Technical Operations Management for Vision Care at Alcon, shared that Industry 4.0 technologies have been embedded throughout the facility. From automated storage and retrieval systems to digitised production monitoring, these advancements enable greater precision, consistency, and resilience.
She added that the expansion will create high-value jobs across production, quality control, and distribution, backed by ongoing partnerships focused on training and upskilling.
The expanded Tuas facility is also said to align with collaborative efforts between industry and academia to build local capabilities in precision engineering, biomedical sciences, and AI-driven automation. Workforce development initiatives — such as the Talent Advancement Programme and the Education Assistance Programme—are key components of this ecosystem, supporting Singapore’s growing role as a MedTech innovation hub.
Commenting on this, Goh Wan Yee, Senior Vice President, Healthcare, for the Singapore Economic Development Board, shared: “Through close collaborations with Singapore suppliers and technology partners, Alcon has been able to enhance advanced manufacturing capabilities and drive sustainable practices here to serve global markets.
"We look forward to deepening our collaboration with Alcon to drive growth, innovation, and talent in Singapore’s Medtech sector.”
Patrick Collier, Senior Vice President, Global Manufacturing and Technical Operations for Alcon added: "The expanded Tuas facility will not only enhance our ability to serve patients’ ocular health needs globally, but also advance our mission to help people see brilliantly through bold innovation, our investments in training and education, and our promise of unwavering quality for customers and patients."
