DOLE Central Office reports 21% reduction in fuel use in Feb-Mar following compressed workweek, related austerity measures

The labour department reported lower fuel use under a compressed workweek and a 11.31% drop in electricity consumption from energy-saving practices.

Philippines' Department of Labour and Employment (DOLE) has reported reductions in both fuel and electricity consumption following recent changes in its work arrangements and energy-saving practices.

The measures form part of a wider effort to conserve resources and improve operational efficiency under Presidential Memorandum Circular No. 114, which directs agencies to reduce fuel and electricity consumption by at least 10%.

According to DOLE, results from the fuel consumption performance analysis of the DOLE Central Office – which composes of the Office of the Secretary, Undersecretaries, Assistant Secretaries, Bureaus (4), and Services (7), showed that total fuel consumption dropped from 4,722.85 litres in February to 3,752.63 litres in March, representing a reduction of 970.22 litres.

Further, several offices recorded significant double-digit reductions in fuel consumption during the assessment period, including DOLE’s Administrative Service, which posted an 80% decrease equivalent to 92.89 litres.

Similarly, based on the Department’s comparative assessment of electricity consumption, DOLE said electricity consumption declined significantly from 113,560 kWh in February 2026 to 100,720 kWh in March 2026 following the implementation of the CWW.

The DOLE Central Office also posted a higher reduction rate of 11,840 kWh or 14.93%, with nine offices recorded reductions of up to 15.68%, reflecting strong compliance with the Department’s energy-saving measures.

According to the department, frontline services remain uninterrupted despite the implementation of energy-saving measures, with the DOLE Hotline 1349 continuing its regular operations from Mondays to Fridays, 6:00am to 1000pm, ensuring continued accessibility and assistance to workers and employers.

"These results also reflect the Department’s continuing commitment to responsible resource management and energy conservation in support of broader government efficiency measures," DOLE stated.
