"Talent transformation is not just about new tools, processes, or programmes. It starts with trusting people, giving them opportunities to stretch beyond their comfort zones, and holding them accountable for meaningful results," shares Avon’s People Director, Philippines & APAC.
Trust is not simply a leadership ideal for Jan Pambid (pictured above) — it is the starting point for creating workplaces where people can take ownership, develop their strengths, and deliver meaningful results.
The People Director, Philippines & APAC at Avon believes employee engagement grows when people have the freedom to make decisions, contribute beyond their immediate roles, and bring their own perspectives to the table. But empowerment must be accompanied by accountability and transparency: the other two principles that define his leadership philosophy.
Pambid’s perspective has been shaped by people and business leadership roles across Asia Pacific, including serving as an HR Head in Malaysia and as a Country General Manager.
Recently awarded for his HR leadership, Pambid remains focused on helping organisations embed learning, adaptability, and purpose into their culture. Outside the workplace, he finds a different kind of challenge as a certified scuba diver and avid mountaineer — pursuits that reinforce the preparation, resilience, and adaptability he also values in leaders.
Leading up to his session at Transform Talent 2026 – Philippines, Pambid speaks with Mary Ann Bundukin about creating the conditions for people to thrive, why open conversations matter, and the ripple effect that follows when employees unlock their potential.

Q What does a great day at work look like for you, and how does it remind you why you love HR?
A great day at work is one where I get to connect with our associates, hear their stories, and see them grow and succeed. Some of the most rewarding moments are watching employees confidently present their ideas, achieve meaningful results, and celebrate their accomplishments with their teams.
"Seeing people bring their best selves to work and unlock their potential reminds me why I love HR. When our associates thrive, they positively impact their colleagues, customers, and communities, creating a ripple effect that makes our work truly meaningful."
Q What's one strategy you've found most effective in keeping employees engaged and committed?
One strategy I’ve found most effective in keeping employees engaged and committed is empowering them to grow and contribute in meaningful ways. This starts with trust, giving people the autonomy to make decisions, take ownership of their work, and contribute beyond their immediate responsibilities.
I also believe in providing flexibility and encouraging creativity, which allows employees to discover their strengths, develop new skills, and bring their unique perspectives to the table.
When people feel trusted, supported, and valued for their contributions, they become more invested in their work, stay motivated, and consistently deliver strong results while continuing to grow professionally.
Q In three words, how would you describe your leadership philosophy?
Three words: Trust, Accountability and Transparency.
My leadership philosophy is centered on treating people like adults by trusting them to take ownership of their work and empowering them to make decisions, innovate, and contribute meaningfully. With that empowerment comes accountability, ensuring individuals understand their responsibilities and are committed to delivering results.
Equally important is transparency, creating an environment where conversations are honest, open, and respectful. When people know what is expected of them, feel trusted to do their best, and have access to clear information, they are more engaged and motivated. This enables them to bring their best selves to work every day.
Q Could you tell us one thing about you that people might be surprised to know?
One thing that might surprise people about me is how much I love the outdoors. Outside of work, I’m a certified scuba diver and an avid mountaineer. I enjoy exploring what lies beneath the ocean as much as I enjoy reaching new heights on a mountain trail. Both activities challenge me physically and mentally, teach resilience, and give me a deep appreciation for nature.
They also reinforce qualities that are important in leadership, such as preparation, adaptability, and perseverance. For me, the outdoors is both an adventure and a way to recharge and gain new perspective.
Q As a speaker at #TransformTalentPH, what is the #1 call to action you hope for attendees to take away from your session?
My #1 call to action for attendees is to create workplaces where people are empowered to grow, contribute, and thrive. Talent transformation is not just about new tools, processes, or programmes. It starts with trusting people, giving them opportunities to stretch beyond their comfort zones, and holding them accountable for meaningful results.
When leaders create an environment of openness, flexibility, and continuous learning, employees are more engaged and able to bring their best selves to work. My hope is that attendees leave committed to unlocking potential in others, because when people grow, organisations grow with them.
