The latest reduction, affecting around 9% of its workforce, follows 800 job cuts in February as the company redirects resources towards its “top strategic priorities”.
eBay has confirmed to media that it plans to carry out its second round of layoffs this year, eliminating around 1,000 jobs, equivalent to about 9% of its workforce.
First reported by Reuters, the latest announcement follows a 6% workforce reduction in February that affected around 800 employees.
In a statement to CNBC, an eBay spokesperson said “this step was taken to ensure we continue to operate from a position of strength by aligning our teams and resources with our top strategic priorities”.
Despite the reductions, the company said it would continue hiring in priority areas aligned with its strategy.
In an internal memo cited in reports, CEO Jamie Iannone told employees that the company’s strategy was working, but said “continuing to capture the significant opportunity ahead requires us to make thoughtful choices about where we focus and invest”.
Affected employees are expected to be informed in the coming days.
The online marketplace is increasingly focusing on areas including authenticated luxury goods, collectibles, and refurbished products as it looks to differentiate itself from competitors.
The latest workforce reduction also comes as eBay continues to increase its investment in artificial intelligence, while streamlining other areas of its operations.
At the end of 2025, eBay employed approximately 12,300 people globally.
