From 12 October 2025, passengers can tap to ride on Guangzhou Metro using international contactless bank cards

The service applies to major international bank cards from Mastercard, American Express, Visa, and JCB, enabled with contactless payment.

Starting 12 October 2025, passengers can tap their international bank cards to ride the Guangzhou Metro.

Supported cards include:

• overseas-issued Mastercard, American Express, Visa, and JCB cards that support contactless payment
• domestically issued Mastercard and American Express cards that support contactless payment and RMB transactions

Passengers can travel easily without purchasing tickets or downloading apps. They can simply tap their card on the gate's card logo area to enter.

This system upgrade follows the earlier integration of China’s UnionPay, making Guangzhou Metro to now support all five major card networks: UnionPay, Mastercard, Visa, JCB, and American Express.

In addition, Guangzhou Metro convenience stores are upgrading their payment systems and are expected to fully support all five major card networks by the end of October.
