The public has been asked to be aware of dangers such as flash floods, landslides, and mudslides, especially in hillside areas near waterways and low-lying areas.
The latest advisory from the Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has warned of continuous rainfall, and heavy to very heavy rain in some areas of the Southern and Eastern regions. As a result, from 21-25 October 2026, the Central region including Bangkok and its surrounding areas, will see increased rainfall, with heavy to very heavy rain in some areas and strong gusts of wind in some locations.
This warning also applies to the lower Northeastern region, the Eastern region, and the upper Southern region.
The advisory asks the public to be aware of dangers such as flash floods, landslides, and mudslides, especially in hillside areas near waterways and low-lying areas. Commuters have been asked to avoid travelling on routes that are prone to recurring flooding, particularly in low-lying areas.
The reason for this continual downpour, TMD stated, is a monsoon trough passing through the central part of Southern Thailand, coupled with the Southwest monsoon covering the lower Andaman Sea. Meanwhile, a high-pressure area or cold air mass from China is spreading over the upper Northern and upper Northeastern parts of Thailand and the South China Sea, resulting in easterly winds covering Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand.
For sailors, it is important to know that in areas of the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, waves may exceed 3 meters in thunderstorm zones.
