  • The expanded Terminal 2 will be seamlessly connected to the Airport Express platform and Terminal 1.
  • The new terminal will offer a new generation of smart check-in facilities.
  • Around 15 airlines operating mainly short-haul and regional routes will move to Terminal 2 in phases.

The new passenger departure facilities at Terminal 2 (T2) of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) will officially open on 27 May 2026, in time to support the anticipated surge in passengers during the summer peak season, as announced by Fred Lam, Chairman of Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) and Mable Chan, Secretary for Transport and Logistics.

Speaking during the Chinese New Year celebrations at HKIA on 17 February 2026, Lam noted that the expanded T2 will be seamlessly connected to the Airport Express platform and Terminal 1, and will offer a new generation of smart check-in facilities, meant to provide a pleasant travel experience for passengers.

Once open, around 15 airlines – primarily those operating short-haul and regional routes – will move to T2 in phases.

To align with passenger traffic demand, the passenger facilities of the expanded T2 are being brought online in phases as planned. As part of the first phase, the Coach Hall at T2 commenced operations on 23 September 2025, offering 41 parking bays for tour buses, cross-boundary coaches, limousines, crew and resident coaches, as well as ticketing counters for cross-boundary transport connecting with more than 110 destinations in the Greater Bay Area.

AAHK added that it has been working closely with relevant government departments, airlines, passenger handling agents, and other stakeholders to prepare for the commissioning of T2’s departure facilities. A comprehensive programme of familiarisation activities, training sessions, drills, and exercises is already underway.
