Hong Kong Airlines is the first to relocate all its check-in counters. Passengers will complete departure procedures at Terminal 2, then proceed to Terminal 1 for boarding.
Passenger departure facilities at Hong Kong International Airport new Terminal 2 (T2) begin operation on 27 May 2026. Check-in counters of 15 airlines will be relocated from Terminal 1 (T1) to T2 in phases through to 10 June 2026.
See below the commencement dates of the relevant airlines’ check-in services in T2:

Hong Kong Airlines is the first to relocate all its check-in counters to T2 on 27 May. Passengers may check in and drop off their baggage at the airline’s counters in Aisle Q of T2, or at the Self-service Check-in Zones at Aisle R and other aisles.
After the relocation, passengers of 15 airlines will check in, drop off their baggage, and pass through security screening and immigration clearance at T2, and then take the Automated People Mover (APM) to T1 for boarding. The normal operating hours of the APM is from 05:30 (first service) to 00:30 (last service).
The T2 departure facilities and the APM will be closed during late‑night/early‑morning hours (00:31 to 05:29). Passengers departing on late-night flights will need to follow the signs to walk back to T1 for immigration clearance and boarding after completing check-in and baggage drop at T2.
The relevant route guide from T2 to T1:

Check-in counters will open three hours prior to the scheduled departure time of each flight, and close 60 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Self‑service kiosks (smart check-in kiosks) will close 60-75 minutes before the scheduled departure time, while boarding gates will close 20-30 minutes before take-off. Passengers are advised to allow sufficient time for check-in procedures in line with their airline’s requirements.
Currently, T2 primarily serves departing passengers originating from Hong Kong. International transfer passengers who are not entering Hong Kong, and passengers transferring to Macau and Pearl River Delta (PRD) ferries, will remain at the Transfer Desks in T1 for their transfer procedures and no need to proceed to T2.
All flights arriving in Hong Kong will continue to use T1 for immigration, customs, baggage claim, and arrival hall procedures. Passengers can collect their baggage, meet friends and family, and access ground transport at T1 as usual.
