JIM said existing passports will remain valid and renewals will continue as usual, following the postponement of the new Malaysian passport rollout to a later date.
The Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) has postponed the implementation of the new version of the International Malaysian Passport (PMA), which was previously scheduled to begin on 1 June 2026.
In a media statement issued on Wednesday (28 May), the department said the rollout would be rescheduled to a later date to be announced.
Explaining the reason, Dato’ Zakaria Shaaban, Director-General, Immigration of Malaysia said: "This measure is taken to ensure the smooth delivery of services and the people's business experience continues to be at the best level.”
JIM also assured the public that existing passport services would continue as usual during this period. Malaysians can still renew their current PMAs, while passports that remain valid can continue to be used until their expiry dates.
It added that any further developments regarding the implementation of the new passport version would be communicated through its official channels from time to time.

The department also reiterated its commitment to strengthening the security of Malaysia’s travel documents while continuing to deliver efficient services to the public.
