Ministry of Education Malaysia declares extra school holiday on 18 March for Hari Raya Aidilfitri

The additional holiday aims to provide teachers, students, and parents with extra time to make preparations for the festival.

The Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) has announced an additional school holiday on 18 March 2026 for all schools nationwide, in conjunction with the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations.

The move is aimed at giving teachers, students, and parents more time to prepare for the festivities and spend time with their families ahead of the celebration.

According to MOE, the additional holiday complements the existing academic calendar for 2026. Schools in Group A have been allocated one extra holiday on 19 March 2026 (Thursday), while schools in Group B will receive two additional holidays on 19 and 20 March 2026 (Thursday and Friday).

Across the country, the official Hari Raya Aidilfitri public holidays will be observed on 21 and 22 March 2026 (Saturday and Sunday) in the following states and federal territories:

  • W.P. Kuala Lumpur
  • W.P. Labuan
  • W.P. Putrajaya
  • Johor
  • Kedah
  • Kelantan
  • Melaka
  • N. Sembilan
  • Pahang
  • Perak
  • Perlis
  • P. Pinang
  • Sabah
  • Sarawak
  • Selangor
  • Terengganu

Families planning to take advantage of the extended break for cross-border travel should also prepare for heavier traffic. Travellers heading across the Singapore-Malaysia land checkpoints during the March school holiday period can expect longer waiting times, with heavy traffic anticipated at both Woodlands Checkpoint and Tuas Checkpoint.
