Nippon Express expands Tuas logistics hub to support JS-SEZ businesses

The expanded Tuas logistics hub now includes high-tech storage, automation, and sustainability upgrades. The move aims to support businesses in the JS-SEZ while creating jobs and upskilling the local workforce.

Nippon Express (Singapore) (NXSG), a group company of Nippon Express Holidngs, has unveiled an expanded Global Logistics Hub in Singapore’s western Tuas district. The expansion, announced in a press release by NX Group and published by Economic Development Board (EDB) Singapore, is said to increase the company’s operational footprint in the city-state by nearly 30%.

The new facility adds 100,000 square feet of high-tech logistics space, bringing NX Group’s total footprint in Singapore to 1.1mn square feet. The expansion is supported by the EDB and JTC.

Sustainability is a core focus of the upgraded hub. A photovoltaic (PV) system is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 771 metric tons per year, while all existing diesel forklifts have been replaced with electric models. Worker safety has also been enhanced, with AI-powered technology deployed to detect and alert operators to potential hazards on the shopfloor.

The facility is designed to handle diverse supply chain requirements, featuring ambient and temperature-controlled environments. Automation is central to operations, with advanced storage systems such as four-way shuttle racking, narrow-aisle racking, autostore, and t-sorting systems optimising both capacity and throughput.

The expansion is also set to create new employment opportunities and develop a future-ready local workforce. NXSG is actively upskilling employees in data collection, visualisation, and analytics to strengthen business insights and decision-making capabilities.

Timing the expansion to coincide with the development of Tuas Port and theJohor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), NXSG aims to complement its warehouse in the Port of Tanjung Pelepas, improving cross-border trucking and local distribution.

Katsuhito Kobayashi, Managing Director, NX South Asia & Oceania, NX Group said: "Our investment in this expansion is fundamentally about serving our customers better. It directly translates to a more robust and agile supply chain, providing the essential capacity to meet surging demand – a critical factor that underpins our strategy for sustainable growth and market leadership in this vital region."

Celia Sia, Senior Vice President & Head of Logistics and Supply Chain Management, EDB, also shared: “The expansion of Nippon Express' warehouse underscores the growing demand for advanced manufacturing and logistics services in our region. We welcome globally leading logistics companies like Nippon Express to anchor and expand their operations here, as EDB partners JTC to support their growth.”

She added that these logistics companies help clients manage increasingly complex global supply chains and take advantage of Singapore’s strong connectivity and infrastructure.
