Retired firefighters in Malaysia to benefit from training in occupational safety and health skills

Through the initiative, retired firefighters will be offered programmes to increase their employability.

A Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Institute of National Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and the Department of Fire and Rescue Malaysia (JBPM) last Thursday (6 March), with a view to free training and certification to approximately 1,000 retired firefighters, and strengthen their occupational safety and health skills.

Minister of Human Resources, Steven Sim Chee Keong stated that the programme will be fully funded by NIOSH’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund in recognition of firefighters who have served to protect the country.

This initiative runs parallel to the ambition of Malaysia Madani programme.

Through the initiative, individuals will be offered programmes like “Train The Trainer” (TTT), Occupational Safety and Health Coordinator (OSH-C) and Management Systems “Lead Auditor” courses to increase the marketability of retired firefighters in the industry.

Minister of Housing and Local Government, Honourable Nga Kor Ming affirmed that this will not only broaden their career opportunities but also enable retirees to continue contributing to the welfare of the community.
