Singapore's first dedicated wellbeing destination breaks ground in Marina South; 400 jobs to be created

Slated to open in 2030, the development seeks to tie leisure, nature, and wellbeing into a "single immersive destination", and will hire for roles including sauna masters and a range of hospitality jobs.

Global developer and operator of large-scale wellbeing destinations, Therme Group established its regional headquarters in Singapore last Friday (19 June 2026), with the groundbreaking of Therme Singapore, an integrated urban wellbeing destination slated to open in Marina South in 2030.

The centre is expected to create an estimated 400 news jobs, including the development of specialised capabilities such as sauna masters (also known as Aufgussmeisters) alongside a range of hospitality roles to lead and deliver the destination’s diverse programming. The roles are said to span across construction, engineering, facilities management, operations and hospitality.

In addition, Therme Singapore has established partnerships with Institutes of Higher Learning, including a Memorandum of Understanding with the Institute of Technical Education and Republic Polytechnic, focusing on skills development, innovation projects, internships, and employment pathways for graduates.

Mah Bow Tan, Chairman of Therme Group Asia and Therme Singapore shared that beyond the visitor experience, Therme Singapore is also about people, creating jobs, developing new capabilities, and supporting Singapore’s tourism, hospitality and wellness sectors.

"Singapore is the ideal platform for Therme's growth in Asia. It offers the right environment for this vision through strong connectivity, a deep talent ecosystem and a culture of innovation, enabling us to serve both local communities and visitors from across the region," he added.

Design and infrastructure

The facility is expected to span over 720,000 sq ft and is designed to serve visitors from all walks of life, from families with children to working professionals and seniors.

The landscape will feature over 200 species of flora and fauna, as well as a coastal public park spanning close to four hectares, connecting Therme Singapore with Marina Barrage, to enhance public access to green spaces while strengthening the ecological and recreational value of the waterfront district.

The seven-storey development with a basement will also feature at least 20 indoor and outdoor pools and water bodies, as well as over 70 wellness treatment rooms.

The visitor experience will be organised into three distinct zones:

The Play zone, which will feature active, family-oriented water attractions, including children's pools, 18 water slides spanning more than 1.8km in total length, and interactive play areas designed for movement, exploration, and shared enjoyment.

The Relax zone, which offers thermal pools, therapeutic mineral baths, quiet water spaces, and amenities such as hydromassage beds and infrared therapy.

The Restore zone, dedicated to deeper wellbeing, including saunas, steam rooms and massage treatment spaces focused on physical and mental rejuvenation. Visitors can expect more than 86,000 sq ft of food-and-beverage offerings for dining, relaxation, and social gatherings, complemented by sea views.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremonyMinister for Sustainability and the Environment and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations Grace Fu emphasised how under Singapore's Tourism 2040 strategy, wellness tourism is a key growth area as it supports the broader move towards higher-value, experience-led tourism, and strengthens Singapore's position as an urban wellness haven.

"Our aim is not just to attract more visitors, but to attract visitors who stay longer, seek high-quality experiences and engage more deeply with what Singapore offers," she added.

Minister Fu also shared that Therme Singapore's strategic location, sitting alongside Gardens by the Bay, Marina Bay Sands, Marina Barrage, Marina Bay Cruise Centre, and the upcoming Founders' Memorial, will "amplify the vibrancy of the Marina Bay precinct."

"It will also broaden the range of lifestyle experiences within the city and enhance Singapore’s overall liveability."

Focusing on the Group's regional presence in Singapore and creating good jobs for Singaporeans, Minister Fu stated that Therme Group will oversee its pipeline of projects across Asia, drawing on our connectivity, talent, and financial capabilities.

"Therme’s investment will create meaningful career opportunities for Singaporeans across engineering, operations, hospitality, and wellness services.

"I am also encouraged by Therme Singapore's collaborations with the Institute of Technical Education and Republic Polytechnic. These partnerships will provide structured training, industry exposure and clear pathways into emerging roles within the wellness sector."
