SMMWU, NICA & NTUC’s e2i to support True Fitness and True Yoga employees with job matching

The support comes after Kontafarma China Holdings, the parent group of the Singapore fitness businesses, announced on 10 September that True Fitness and True Yoga had entered provisional liquidation.

The Singapore Manual & Mercantile Workers’ Union (SMMWU), National Instructors and Coaches Association (NICA), and NTUC’s Employment and Employability Institute (e2i) will organise a job-matching session for former employees of True Fitness and True Yoga following news that the fitness and yoga operators are set to close amid liquidation proceedings.

The session, which will be held on Thursday, 17 September 2026, will offer affected workers job-matching assistance, guidance and advice on workplace matters. SMMWU’s membership team will also be present to assist union members.

True Fitness and True Yoga are not unionised companies, although some of their employees are SMMWU members. SMMWU, an affiliate union of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), has called on both companies to work with the union to support affected members and facilitate access to assistance where needed.

The support comes after Kontafarma China Holdings, the parent group of the Singapore fitness businesses, announced on 10 September that True Fitness and True Yoga had entered provisional liquidation. The company said its Singapore centres operating under the True Fitness, Yoga Edition and TFX brands were intended to close as part of a proposed creditors’ voluntary winding-up process.

SMMWU said it is already assisting affected members and will provide further resources where required. NTUC’s e2i said it stands ready to support affected Singaporeans and permanent residents through job-matching services, career coaching and skills-upgrading advice.

Eligible Singaporean and PR workers may also receive support under the SkillsFuture Jobseeker Support scheme by taking part in e2i job-search activities. The scheme provides temporary financial support of up to S$6,000 over six months for eligible individuals who are involuntarily unemployed, subject to meeting monthly activity requirements.

Union members who need to upgrade their skills may also be able to tap the Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP) to offset training costs.

"SMMWU will provide further assistance and resources to affected union members and workers where needed," said Andy Lim, Secretary-General, The Singapore Manual & Mercantile Workers' Union.
