TMD has warned of thunderstorms, strong winds, hail and heavy to very heavy rainfall across several regions, including Bangkok.
As of 8 October 2026 at 5am, Thailand’s Meteorological Department (TMD) has warned of variable weather conditions from 9 to 13 October 2026, with thunderstorms, strong winds, hail, and heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in some areas.
The affected regions are expected to vary throughout the five-day period:
- 9 October: Lower Northeast, Eastern and Southern regions
- 10 October: Lower North, lower Northeast, Central region including Bangkok and its surrounding areas, Eastern region and Southern region
- 11 October: Lower North, Central region including Bangkok and its surrounding areas, Eastern region and Southern region
- 12 October: Southern region
- 13 October: Southern region
The weather conditions are linked to a high-pressure system or cold air mass from China spreading over upper Thailand, together with a monsoon trough lying across the upper Southern region.
At the same time, the southwest monsoon continues to prevail over the Andaman Sea, Southern Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.
The TMD has advised the public to be aware of thunderstorms, strong winds, heavy to very heavy rainfall, and accumulated rainfall, which could lead to flash floods, overflowing waterways and landslides.
The risks may be higher in areas near waterways, foothills and low-lying areas that are prone to waterlogging.
People are also advised to avoid staying in open areas, under large trees or near unstable advertising signs during thunderstorms and strong winds.
Waves may exceed two metres during thunderstorms
For the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand, waves may exceed two metres in areas experiencing thunderstorms.
Sailors in both areas are advised to check their routes, navigate with caution, and avoid sailing through areas affected by thunderstorms.
The TMD has also advised the public to plan daily activities and travel with caution during the affected period, while continuing to monitor its weather announcements as conditions develop.
