Tropical Storm Jangmi is affecting Japan, bringing heavy rain and strong winds to Okinawa, and expected to approach Tokyo tomorrow (3 June).

Amidst the severe weather conditions, airlines have announced the cancellation or rescheduling of multiple flights. This includes services between Hong Kong and Okinawa operated by Hong Kong Express and Hong Kong Airlines.

All Nippon Airways (ANA) said flights on 3 June 2026 to and from Tokyo’s Narita and Haneda airports may face disruptions. Japan Airlines (JAL) has also cancelled some flights on 3 June to and from airports in Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Amami Ōshima, and more.

Rail services are also expected to be affected. The Tokaido Shinkansen line may experience disruptions from tonight into tomorrow.

Travellers are advised to check the latest information related to their itineraries before departure.

The Japan Meteorological Agency, cited by Kyodo News, has warned of potential landslides, flooding in low-lying areas, and overflowing rivers in the Amami region today and across western Japan from today into tomorrow. A Level 4 alert – an urgent warning urging residents to evacuate from dangerous areas – may be issued. Authorities have called on the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.

According to reports from NHK and Hong Kong media, strong winds have already caused damage in parts of Okinawa and left more than 10 people injured.

The storm is expected to bring up to 300mm of rainfall to southern Kyushu, Shikoku, and the Tokai region, and up to 350mm to the Kinki region within 24 hours. Heavy rain is also forecast along Japan’s Pacific coast as the storm approaches.
