Uber has launched its latest iteration of the 'She++' initiative in India, a programme that promotes diversity, equity and inclusion within the technology sector.
The programme provides early-career opportunities for women, people with disabilities, and other underrepresented students, in which they will get to intern with Uber’s engineering teams, allowing them to gain insights and experience in the technology industry.
Initially, the She++ initiative aimed to primarily promote women in engineering, with participation from at least 2,000 students from top engineering colleges across India and highlighted the growing demand for inclusivity in the workforce last year.
This year, however, the initiative has evolved into a broader diversity initiative, with over 4,000 applications from top engineering colleges across India.
The She++ professional development initiative offers a platform for early in-career talent to learn from industry leaders, develop essential skills, and expand their professional network.
An event, held on 7 March 2024 at Uber’s Bangalore Campus, provided students with a unique opportunity to interact with Uber's leaders and HR professionals, featuring activities like fireside chats with industry leaders, speed mentoring sessions, networking lunches, and opportunities to contribute to Uber's innovation.
Dawn Carter, Director, Global Talent Acquisition, Uber said: “The expansion of She++ to encompass individuals with disabilities and others represents a significant stride in our mission to cultivate a more inclusive society."
