About 5,000 Malaysian workers to benefit from digital skills training in new MoU

The initiative aims to offer reskilling, upskilling, and skills training in sectors including cyber security, data science, and AI this year.

In a move that aims to equip Malaysian workers with the latest digital skills, a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between PERKESO, HRD Corp, and HCL Tech.

The initiative, which targets 5,000 workers in 2025, aims to offer reskilling, upskilling, and skills training in sectors including cyber security, data science, and artificial intelligence (AI).

The MoU was officially signed in Kuala Lumpur on 23 January 2025 (Thursday), with a fund on RM20mn from PERKESO and HRD Corp to kickstart the programme. Training will be in practical style and tailored to industry needs, with participants gaining hands on experience through placement opportunities within HCL Tech’s ecosystem.

SOCSO will train workers covered by the Employment Insurance Scheme (SIP), while HRD Corp will provide training for others. The initiative is part of Malaysia’s broader efforts to futureproof its workforce and ensure they are ready for the demands of a rapidly evolving digital economy.

Steven Sim, Minister of Human Resources
, commented: "This official MoU marks the collaboration between the three organisations to provide reskilling, upskilling and skills training to Malaysian workers."
