In her newly added role, Poon is now responsible for driving strategic human resources at the group level, while simultaneously overseeing operations as COO of Shopmatic (acquired by MatchMove).
Earlier this month, Nicole Poon (pictured above) took to LinkedIn to share about her new role with fintech company MatchMove, where she now holds an additional role of Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO).
She continues to hold her current position of Chief Operations Officer (COO) at Shopmatic, which had been acquired by MatchMove in 2022.
Speaking to HRO, Poon shared that as CHRO, she is responsible for driving strategic human resources at the group company level. "My core focus areas include talent management, organisational development, and shaping a future-ready workforce that aligns with the company’s fintech growth", she explains. Poon takes on the challenge to reimagine policies, enhance employee experiences, and foster a culture or innovation and inclusivity.
Alongside this, Poon will continue overseeing operations as COO. This includes optimising e-commerce operations, improving process efficiency, and ensuring seamless integration with the group company’s strategic goals. "Balancing these two roles requires a blend of people-centric leadership and operational excellence to drive both business outcomes and employee engagement."
When asked about her priorities for the coming year, Poon shares that her top priority is to create a fulfilling work environment where employees feel engaged, valued, and empowered to thrive. To achieve this, she is focusing on human capital management by introducing two key initiatives:
- Revamping compensation and benefits
The organisation’s offerings should align with market conditions, reflect company’s growth, all while considering the overall well-being and benefits of the employees. Ultimately, the goal is to enhance employee experience and foster growth while addressing the workforce’s evolving needs.
- Strengthening learning & development (L&D)
To cultivate a culture of continuous growth and upskilling by providing dynamic learning and development opportunities that align with the evolving needs of the workforce and industry.
"As we navigate the complexities of our industry, I am dedicated to striking a balance between meeting business requirements and addressing the internal needs of our people. By fostering a culture of positivity, productivity, and innovation, I aim to drive growth, enhance employee satisfaction, and make a meaningful impact on our community and society."
To add on, Poon understands that the industry may have challenges and complexities. One major concern she anticipates is the adoption of technology and how it may implicate the organisational structure and workforce readiness. To combat this challenge, she will work to ensure that the organisational structure is reimagined to always remain agile, resilient, and ready. This involves adopting innovative tech solutions, streamlining processes, and preparing the workforce to embrace these changes.
She adds: "Navigating this transition effectively will help us stay competitive while supporting employees through meaningful upskilling and reskilling initiatives."
Despite the challenges she may face, Poon believes the greatest opportunity lies in having co-creation – harnessing the collective intelligence of the workforce to innovate and stay ahead in a rapidly evolving landscape. She recalls her mentor sharing, 'with the rise of generative AI, we must continually imagine, create, and adapt to develop new ideas and solutions that benefit both our people and the planet.'
"By fostering a culture of co-creation, where employees are active participants in shaping the future, we can tap into diverse perspectives, drive creativity, and build solutions that are both sustainable and impactful. This approach ensures our organization remains dynamic, inclusive, and forward-thinking," she highlights.
