When adopting technology and AI in any processes, teams are bound to face hurdles along the way — as with any journey of transformation.
For the team at Lenovo, the move to implement online pre-onboarding management with automation brought on its own set of challenges, including ensuring the accuracy and security of data information, supporting multiple languages, and automating the data process.
In this interview, Chuchu Wang, HR Service Center Manager – Asia Pacific, Lenovo, talks about how she and her team overcame these hurdles, a journey that led the team to win a gold trophy for 'Excellence in AI-Powered HR Solutions' at the HR Excellence Awards 2024 in Singapore.
Q What was the motivation that sparked your passion & business case for pursuing your outstanding people strategy?
The motivation behind our passion and business case for pursuing an outstanding people strategy stems from a deep belief in the power of human potential. We have always been inspired by the idea that when people are supported, valued, and empowered, they can achieve remarkable things. This belief has driven us to create a people strategy that not only aligns with our business goals but also fosters a culture of growth, inclusion, and innovation.
We have witnessed firsthand the transformative impact that a well-crafted people strategy can have on an organisation.
By focusing on employee engagement, professional development, and a supportive work environment, we can unlock the full potential of our team members. This, in turn, leads to increased productivity, higher job satisfaction, and ultimately, better business outcomes.
Q Looking back, can you share a challenge that you overcame in your journey of HR excellence? How did you triumph?
One significant challenge we faced in our journey of HR excellence was during the implementation of online pre-onboarding management with RPA and E-Contract. This project aimed to improve new hire onboarding experience and enhance process efficiency. However, we encountered several hurdles, including ensuring the accuracy and security of data information, supporting multiple languages, and automating the data process.
To overcome these challenges, we focused on several key strategies:
- Ensuring accuracy and security: We prioritised the accuracy and security of the information provided during onboarding process with HR data management system and ensure the onboarding documents are linked to the individual profile.
- Supporting multiple languages: Given the global expansion, we needed to support multiple languages in onboarding documents and embed into our HR systems.
- Automating data processes: To reduce the manual maintenance workload for the HR team, we integrated RPA to help with the onboarding reminders.
Through these efforts, we successfully overcame the challenges and enhanced the efficiency and effectiveness of our onboarding process. This experience not only strengthened our HR capabilities but also demonstrated the importance of innovation and adaptability in achieving HR excellence.
