The latest adjustment represents a sixfold increase in surcharge levels.

Several major Mainland Chinese airlines have announced increases to fuel surcharges for domestic flights effective 5 April 2026, according to multiple media reports from Hong Kong and Mainland China.

The airlines implementing the adjustment include Air China, China Southern Airlines and its subsidiary Xiamen Airlines, as well as China Eastern Airlines and its subsidiaries Shanghai Airlines and China United Airlines.

According to the statements on the websites of Xiamen Airlines and China Eastern Airlines, the fuel surcharge for domestic flights per passenger has been raised to 60 yuan for routes of up to 800 kilometres, and 120 yuan for longer routes – six times the previous levels of 10 yuan and 20 yuan respectively.

For international flights, surcharges will be subject to the system‑based calculation, said the statements.

This adjustment comes amidst a surge in global jet fuel prices driven by ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Hong Kong’s major airlines have likewise announced further increases to their fuel surcharges previously.
