Global passport ranking: Which passports are the most powerful in 2026?

This year's edition sees the United Arab Emirates retain its position as the world’s most powerful passport, with Singapore and Malaysia jointly ranked second.

The United Arab Emirates has retained its position as the world’s most powerful passport in the 2026 Passport Index, with a mobility score of 182.

Singapore and Malaysia jointly rank second, each with a score of 175, followed by Spain in third place with 174.

Created by Arton Capital, the Passport Index is an interactive, real-time global passport ranking tool. It covers the passports of 193 UN member states and six territories, with data based on official government information and updated as visa rules and waivers change.

Passports are ranked primarily by their Mobility Score, including visa-free access, visa on arrival, electronic travel authorisations and eligible eVisas. Where scores are tied, the ranking considers the proportion of visa-free access compared with visa-on-arrival access, followed by the UN Development Programme’s Human Development Index as a tiebreaker.

Commenting on Malaysia's improvement – up from third to second position, Jabatan Imigresen Malaysia shared in a Facebook post: "This achievement reflects the strength and acceptance of the Malaysia passport at the international level."
