The maximum daily rate of medical expenses for out-patient treatment and combined in-patient/out-patient treatment will be increased.

Hong Kong's Labour Department (LD) has announced an upcoming adjustment to the maximum daily rates of reimbursable medical expenses for employees injured at work, and individuals suffering from prescribed occupational disease.

The revised maximum daily rates are:

  • Out-patient treatment: Increased from HK$300 to HK$500
  • In-patient and out-patient treatment received on the same day: Increased from HK$370 to HK$700
  • In-patient treatment: Remains at HK$300

These adjustments will take effect from 1 January 2026.

Under the Employees' Compensation Ordinance (ECO) and the Pneumoconiosis and Mesothelioma (Compensation) Ordinance (PMCO), injured employees and prescribed occupational disease sufferers who have received medical treatment in respect of a work injury or a prescribed occupational disease, may claim reimbursement of the actual amount of medical expenses incurred, subject to the maximum daily rates specified in the two Ordinances.

"In general, the revised rates can cover the expenses incurred by injured employees and prescribed occupational disease sufferers on consultation, treatment/therapy, injection and dressing, medicines and hospitalisation, etc, on a day in a public hospital or clinic," a spokesperson for the LD said.

The update aims to provide enhanced protection for injured employees and prescribed occupational disease sufferers on medical expenses.
