Hong Kong salary guide 2026: Pay trends, hot skills, and hiring priorities across key sectors

閱讀中文版本

  • Most annual salary increments remain modest, averaging 3-5% under controlled budgets.
  • Hiring sentiment is cautiously optimistic, with employers prioritising skills-based and value-driven recruitment.
  • In HR sector, HR business partners and HR generalists have emerged as the most sought‑after roles.

Optimism and caution continue to define Hong Kong’s job market heading into 2026. Although businesses are showing intent to grow, hiring has remained selective and skills-focused, with organisations scrutinising each role through the lens of cost efficiency, productivity, and long-term business value.

These trends are detailed in the latest 2026 Hong Kong Salary Guide by Morgan McKinley, which highlighted a persistent mismatch between supply and demand for skilled professionals. Acute shortages continue across technology, financial services, and transformation-focused finance roles, especially in areas such as AI, data analytics, cybersecurity, cloud solutions, and governance.

At the same time, salary budgets remain tight. Most organisations are offering annual increments of around 3-5%, reserving premiums for niche, specialist capabilities.

To support HR and business leaders in planning their 2026 talent strategies, HRO has distilled key insights from the Guide across the following seven functions:

  • Contract hiring supports HR transformation, HRIS upgrades, and interim coverage needs.
