To date, 95% of Singtel Group employees in Singapore have undergone a foundational AI programme, and the signing of a renewed MoU is expected to boost efforts further.
Singtel has continued to invest in workforce transformation by renewing its Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Union of Telecoms Employees of Singapore (UTES) under its Company Training Committee (CTC).
The MOU was signed on 9 September 2025 during the launch of the Group’s BIG Learning Fiesta, a month-long programme of talks and workshops for employees’ professional and personal development.
The renewed MOU complements ongoing initiatives to scale AI adoption and implementation across the organisation.
Previously, efforts between Singtel Group and UTES under the CTC include an investment of S$45mn in 2019 to enhance employees’ digital skills through a people development framework called the ACT initiative.
The renewed partnership continues the ACT focus in three areas:
- Accelerating employee upskilling in AI, emerging tech, sustainability, and power skills.
- Co-creating learning pathways through a skills-first approach.
- Transforming employee roles to prepare a future-ready workforce.
To date, some 13,000 or 95% of Singtel Group employees in Singapore have undergone a programme to train them with foundational AI knowledge in areas such as generative AI, data analytics and responsible AI use.
Broadly, Singtel aims for all Singapore-based employees to be AI-trained, with 3,000 as AI practitioners and 300 as AI specialists.
Yuen Kuan Moon, Chief Executive Officer, Singtel Group (pictured above, extreme left) stated: “AI is transforming the way we live and work, and even redefining what jobs will look like in the future. That’s why we’re moving just as fast to prepare our people for this change.”
He added: "To be truly AI-ready, we’re putting skills first, empowering our people to build the critical capabilities they need, with technology as their trusted co-pilot.
"By learning how to make the most of AI, our people will be able to seize new opportunities with confidence, make smarter decisions and play a leading role in driving sustainable growth for the business and for themselves."
To provide more context into Singtel's skills-first approach, the Group’s AI strategy is structured around three roles: adopter, builder-provider, and enabler of AI.
This strategy is expected to create AI-related career paths within the Group, including data centre opportunities with Nxera, which recently held its first Sustainable AI Data Centre Career Day in partnership with industry partners.
