The CSR programme focuses on nurturing the next generation of skilled technicians with an emphasis on environmental awareness, while also contributing to broader efforts toward a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable digital future.
Lenovo Singapore has launched its 'Clean, Secure, and Renew' (CSR) programme in partnership with the Institute of Technical Education (ITE), to support the development of a new generation of skilled, eco-conscious technicians, as well as to continue equipping individuals to build a cleaner, safer and more sustainable digital future.
Alvin Goh, Principal of ITE College East, shared his appreciation, saying: "Our partnership with Lenovo reflects ITE’s commitment to equipping students for success in the rapidly evolving digital economy.
"Through robust certification programmes, we’re not only building strong technical competencies, but also nurturing digitally responsible individuals who value sustainability in technology.
"By gaining hands-on, real-world experience, our students are given the opportunity to actively support Singapore’s circular economy aspirations—and we’re proud to see them grow into skilled, purpose-driven technicians who are ready to make a meaningful impact in their communities."
Digital resilience
The programme is built around three core pillars — Clean, Secure, and Renew — which aim to reflect Lenovo’s holistic approach to digital sustainability.
- Under the Clean pillar, students will be trained in tech hygiene practices, offering laptop cleaning and maintenance services to help extend device lifespans and reduce electronic waste.
- Meanwhile, the Secure pillar will promote cybersecurity awareness, focusing on data protection, secure device handling, data sanitisation, and identifying emerging digital threats.
- Lastly, the Renew pillar introduces students to circular economy principles through laptop refurbishment, where they learn to assess, repair, and upgrade devices to prolong usability and minimise environmental impact.
In addition, the programme’s AI prompting workshops equip participants with hands-on skills to work smarter and streamline workflows — aligning with Singapore’s ongoing Smart Nation push. Over 50 certified technicians are already putting these skills into action, applying AI in real-world settings while championing a culture of tech hygiene and device care.
Digital learning
To broaden the programme’s reach, a free online micro-learning course on tech hygiene has been co-developed, designed to educate students, educators, and the public on essential device maintenance practices. The goal is to encourage everyday tech awareness and lifelong habits that support digital wellness and sustainability.
In recognition of students who demonstrate exceptional commitment, the programme also includes the "Top 10 Lenovo Certified Technician" awards, which celebrate individuals who have gone above and beyond in applying their skills to community service — making a measurable impact through tech hygiene and maintenance efforts.
Nigel Lee, Country General Manager at Lenovo Singapore expressed his excitement for the collaboration: "We look forward to this long-term partnership with ITE and their network of youths, expanding our sustainability mission through this comprehensive CSR programme.
"Through this joint initiative, we hope to create a pipeline of skilled, environmentally conscious technicians who are leading the charge towards a smarter and more sustainable technology, ultimately honing their digital skills for the competitive global workforce."
"This initiative perfectly aligns with our global vision of delivering Smarter Technology for All," he added.
SG60 and beyond
In support of Singapore’s SG60 vision and broader sustainability goals, the programme aims to strengthen AI literacy, cybersecurity awareness, and refurbishment skills among participants. So far, corporate participants have completed a cumulative 300 hours of training — a reflection of growing engagement in digital upskilling.
Backed by Lenovo’s sustainability infrastructure — including the Sustainability Lab at ITE College East — and partnerships with organisations such as the Association for Small & Medium Enterprises (ASME), the initiative showcases the value of industry-education collaboration in shaping Singapore’s digital and sustainable future.
“As sustainability and digitalisation become key pillars of Singapore’s future economy, it’s important for SMEs to gradually build familiarity and capabilities in these areas,” said Tan Ching Hwee, Chair of ASME’s Sustainability Action Group.
“Supporting such initiatives ultimately becomes an investment in our nation’s human capital and our collective commitment to responsible, long-term growth.”
The three-year programme was unveiled at ITE College East by guest of honour, Mr Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim, Minister of State.
