Malaysia to enhance MyKad security features in June, fully roll out MyNIISe in September

KDN said identity cards and passports will be equipped with the latest security features, in line with current needs and rising complexity in security risks.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (Kementerian Dalam Negeri, or KDN) in Malaysia will be fully rolling out the Malaysia National Integrated Immigration System (MyNIISe) in September this year.

According to Bernama article, reposted on KDN's Facebook page, this will follow the introduction of enhanced security features for MyKad in June. Announcing this at KDN's monthly assembly on 4 May, and cited by Bernama, Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the above comes as part of efforts to strengthen the country's national identity system and improve service delivery.

As part of the MyKad enhancements, identity cards and passports will be equipped with the latest security features, in line with current needs and rising complexity in security risks, it was added.

Quoted in the Bernama coverage, Minister Saifuddin said this has been something the ministry has been working towards for a long time, adding that significant progress has been made with the system now providing all the prerequisites ahead of the September launch – enabling citizenship application submissions where applicable.
