The company said it has grown its Singapore workforce from 10 to around 100 employees in nine months, as the company expands its regional engineering, product, and business operations.
Plaud has opened its Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore and said it will invest at least S$20mn in its regional operations, engineering, and product development work.
The company said its Singapore headcount has grown from 10 to about 100 employees in nine months, a tenfold increase. According to Plaud, this means it has reached its original end-of-2026 hiring target three months earlier than planned.
The new office, located at Marina Bay Financial Centre, occupies 15,000 sq ft and will house teams across engineering, product, customer success, operations, marketing and business functions. Plaud will use Singapore as its regional base for 12 markets outside Japan and mainland China, including Australia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
The S$20mn commitment is double the investment the company announced earlier this year. Plaud said the additional funding will support further recruitment, particularly in engineering, product and business roles.
The headquarters was opened at a ceremony attended by Minister of State for Digital Development and Information Rahayu Mahzam, as well as representatives from the Economic Development Board (EDB) and the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA).
Plaud CEO and co-founder Nathan Xu said Singapore’s multilingual environment is central to the company’s product-development plans.
"Asia is one of the hardest places in the world to build AI that understands context and intent because people switch seamlessly between languages, dialects, and contexts,” Xu said. “Singapore brings that diversity together in one place.”
Plaud develops wearable AI devices and software intended to capture conversations and turn them into notes and follow-up actions. The company said its Singapore-based teams are contributing to multilingual and code-switching capabilities that will be incorporated into its products globally.
According to Lionel Lim, Vice President and Head of Technology Hardware and Equipment at EDB, the expansion would create opportunities in product development, AI hardware and data infrastructure.
“Singapore’s strong AI and engineering capabilities, diverse talent pool and access to Asia-Pacific markets make it an ideal base for companies like Plaud to build AI products for global markets,” Lim said.
