MOM said it does not track annual medical insurance premiums for EP holders, and does not plan to make such coverage compulsory for employers.
The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) in Singapore does not intend to require employers to provide medical insurance coverage for Employment Pass (EP) holders.
The clarification came in response to a parliamentary question by MP Chua Kheng Wee Louis on whether the Government tracks the current 25th percentile, median, average, and 75th percentile of annual medical insurance premiums for foreign EP holders, and whether it is considering making medical insurance coverage mandatory for EP holders without existing coverage.
In its response, MOM said it does not track the annual premiums of medical insurance policies purchased for EP holders.
The Ministry also said it does not plan to require employers to provide medical insurance coverage for EP holders. According to MOM, EP holders are subject to higher salary thresholds compared to Work Permit and S Pass holders, and are therefore considered to have the means to purchase their own insurance.
The response clarifies the Government’s current position on medical insurance requirements for EP holders in Singapore.
