The new Global AI Assurance Sandbox, PET adoption guide, and Singapore Standard for Data Protection build on ongoing efforts to strike a balance — creating room for innovation while ensuring guardrails are in place so the public can use these technologies with confidence.
To strengthen trust in emerging technologies while empowering innovation, Singapore has introduced three key initiatives:
- The Global AI Assurance Sandbox
- A new privacy enhancing technologies (PETs) adoption guide
- The Singapore Standard for Data Protection
Announced on Monday (7 July 2025) by Minister for Digital Development and Information and Minister-in-charge of Cybersecurity and Smart Nation Group, Josephine Teo, these efforts build on existing frameworks to create space for businesses to innovate boldly, with guardrails in place so the public can adopt new technologies with confidence.
Global AI Assurance Sandbox
Since the launch of the Global AI Assurance pilot at the Paris AI Action Summit earlier this year, the AI Verify Foundation (AIVF) and Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) have seen strong interest from both local and global players.
Now expanded, the Global AI Assurance Sandbox includes new AI archetypes — such as agentic AI — and emerging risks like data leakage and prompt injection vulnerabilities. It offers organisations tools, resources, and a safe environment to test and refine responsible AI applications. Regulators can also use the Sandbox to pilot and enhance their own AI governance or testing frameworks.
Insights gained will help shape policy and support the development of accreditation for AI testers. The initiative will also tap into IMDA’s newly launched Starter Kit for Safety Testing of LLM-based Applications to provide a structured, standardised testing approach.
Businesses can now adopt Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PETs) easily with a new adoption guide
To help businesses adopt PETs, IMDA and the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) have launched a new PETs Adoption Guide — developed from real use cases in the PET Sandbox since 2022.
The guide offers two resources:
- The “PETs Use Case Evaluation Tool”, to help organisations assess which solutions fit their needs, and
- An “Implementation Checklist”, to support organisations across every stage — from evaluation to sustainable deployment.
Intended as a “living document”, the guide and resources would be constantly refined as new use cases join the IMDA PET Sandbox, as well as from industry feedback. Feedback on the PET Adoption Guide can be sent to the following address: data_innovation@imda.gov.sg.
New National Certification for Data Protection
In partnership with Enterprise SG and the Singapore Accreditation Council, IMDA has enhanced the Data Protection Trustmark (DPTM) — now recognised as the national standard for data protection.
This updated standard sets clearer requirements around areas such as third-party data handling and cross-border transfers, helping certified organisations demonstrate accountability and excellence in data protection.
The certification process has also been streamlined, offering businesses a single point of contact from application to approval. The Singapore Accreditation Council will ensure all assessments meet globally recognised benchmarks.
For consumers, the DPTM Trustmark serves as an indicator that certified organisations follow world-class practices to protect personal data.
