Speaking exclusively with HRO, Ir. Andrew Young, Advisor (Innovation), Sino Group, emphasises the competition is one of the initiatives to foster creativity and empower innovation.
To nurture the next generation of creative talents, Sino Group has partnered with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) to co-organise the 'HKUST-SINO One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition’ as a platform for aspiring young entrepreneurs to develop innovative solutions.
Focusing on sustainability and healthcare, participating teams are required to apply innovative technology to creatively address environmental and health challenges.
Speaking exclusively to HRO's Tracy Chan, Ir. Andrew Young, Advisor (Innovation), Sino Group (pictured, middle), emphasises that the competition is one of the initiatives to foster creativity and empower innovation.
“The competition provides a vital platform for aspiring local young entrepreneurs to transform their ideas into innovative solutions that create positive and sustainable impacts on society and the environment,” he says.
This year’s competition has also introduced a new track for overseas university students. Among 340 participating teams from Hong Kong and around the world, nearly a quarter represent 15 countries.
“Engaging with international teams from over 15 countries and regions offers valuable cross-domain knowledge exchange and collaborative learning opportunities among local and international talents,” adds Young.
He continues that Sino Group believes innovative technology holds the key to enhancing the quality of life. Recognising the vital role of talent in driving innovation, the Group actively fosters a vibrant innovative and technology ecosystem to support the growth of start-ups in Hong Kong and beyond.
It is also committed to fostering innovation and technology development in Hong Kong by nurturing an innovative spirit among young talents from an early age. For example:
- The Hong Kong Innovation Foundation (HKIF) has been organising the annual Science Fair since 2021, with support from various tertiary institutions, scientific research institutions, and partners across different sectors.
- The Science Fair organised by the HKIF provides a platform for young people to showcase their inventions and exchange ideas, fostering an innovative mindset from an early age and promoting a culture of innovation and technology within the community.
“Over the past three years, the Science Fair has received an enthusiastic response, with over 1,100 projects submitted by more than 4,000 local students, along with their supervising teachers. The exhibitions and award presentation ceremonies held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre have attracted over 66,000 attendees,” highlights Young.
Internally, Sino Group strives to extend this innovative spirit among its employees as well. ‘Sinovation’, its long-standing programme since 2019, is dedicated to cultivating a culture of innovation among staff by encouraging them to drive value-driven solutions that bring efficient and quality improvements to operations and the wider community.
“Aligned with the vision of ‘Creating Better Lifescapes’, the Group continues working with all industry partners to support young talents, with the goal of injecting fresh vitality into the overall innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystems,” Young affirms.
