Employers, workers, and individuals travelling within Thailand in this period are advised to keep these details on hand.
Thailand is gearing up to make Songkran 2026 travel smoother and safer. From free expressway tolls and airport parking to complimentary vehicle safety checks, the government is rolling out a series of temporary transport perks between 10 and 19 April to for ease of travel during the holiday period.
The measures were detailed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, cited by Public Relations Department.
Free tolls on major expressways & motorways
From 10–16 April 2026, tolls will be waived on certain major routes, including:
- Motorway 7 (Bangkok–Pattaya)
- Outer Bangkok Ring Road (specific sections to be confirmed by the Ministry of Transport and relevant operators)
In addition, selected urban expressways in Bangkok will be toll‑free during the peak holiday period:
- 13–15 April 2026 – toll exemption on designated expressways within Bangkok (detailed implementing notices are typically issued closer to the period by the Expressway Authority of Thailand).
Free parking at Suvarnabhumi Airport
For air travelers transiting through Bangkok during Songkran:
- Free long‑stay parking is available at Suvarnabhumi Airport – Zone C from 11–15 April 2026.
- A complimentary shuttle bus service will operate between Zone C and the passenger terminal.
Free vehicle safety checks
Throughout the Songkran period, more than 150 roadside checkpoints nationwide will offer free vehicle inspections throughout the festival period.
Smoother roads ahead
All construction activity on major roads will be paused during the holiday, with extra lighting added on key routes for safer night driving.
To help travellers make the most of these measures, authorities also recommend using a few key apps to stay informed on the go:
- M Traffic for Motorway updates,
- Thailand Highway Traffic for nationwide road conditions and
- NAMTANG for Bangkok public transport connections.
In case of incidents or emergencies during the Songkran period, travellers can contact the emergency and travel hotline on 1356.
