Yahoo Mail and Yahoo Search are not impacted by this development and will continue to operate as usual in Hong Kong.

According to multiple local media reports, and a statement seen by HRO, Yahoo! Hong Kong will begin a phased wind-down of its media content business as of April 2026, with most full-time employees at Yahoo! News to potentially be laid off on 31 March.

The wind-down is expected to be completed by later this year, and, per the statement, reflects ongoing adjustments across Yahoo!'s global business in line with long-term priorities, as was echoed by the company in a response to HK01.

The statement did clarify that Yahoo Mail and Yahoo Search are not impacted by this transition and will continue to operate as usual in Hong Kong.

Reports said Yahoo! management informed staff from the content and business departments on 17 March 2026 that the platform will stop producing original news and financial content from April. Other media content currently published on its website will also be phased out over the course of the year.

Due to the downsizing, most full-time employees in the news department, including sales personnel, are likely be laid off on 31 March. A small number of remaining staff will handle transition work. It is understood that Yahoo! News currently employs around 30 to 40 full-time staff, with only about one-third expected to remain after April.
