Century-old Hong Kong brand Amoy Food sold to China's largest condiment maker

The acquisition brings together two long-established Chinese food brands, with the companies aiming to leverage their combined strengths in branding, manufacturing, distribution, and supply chain operations.

Trustar Capital has completed the sale of Amoy Food, the Hong Kong-headquartered food manufacturer known for its soy sauce and condiment products, to Foshan Haitian Flavouring and Food Company, China's largest condiment producer.

Founded in 1908, Amoy Food has built a global presence spanning more than 30 countries and regions. The company's portfolio includes soy sauce, oyster sauce, seasoning sauces, and frozen dim sum products, and it is widely recognised for its “Made in Hong Kong” heritage.

The transaction marks the end of a seven-year ownership period by Trustar Capital, which acquired Amoy Food's global business in 2019. During that time, the private equity firm said it has helped strengthen the company's corporate governance framework, enhance operational and management capabilities, expand research and development and manufacturing capacity, and broaden its market footprint.

Following the acquisition, Amoy Food and Haitian are expected to leverage their complementary strengths across brand heritage, channel coverage, manufacturing footprint, and supply chain capabilities to unlock new opportunities for long-term growth and sustainable development.

Haitian, another long-established Chinese brand, is the largest condiment manufacturer in China, with products spanning 13 major categories including soy sauce, oyster sauce, sauces and condiments, vinegar, cooking wine, chicken essence, ketchup, compound seasonings, grains and edible oils.
