Government agencies will see an extended seven-day Lunar New Year break, supported by compensatory rest days.
Taiwan’s Directorate-General of Personnel Administration (DGPA) has announced the approval of the 2027 office calendar for government agencies by the Executive Yuan. Including weekends, there will be a total of 121 days off and nine long weekends in the coming year.
Under the guidelines, compensatory leave will be arranged when holidays fall on weekends. If a memorial day or holiday falls on a Saturday, a compensatory day off will be granted on the preceding working day; if it falls on a Sunday, the compensatory leave will be scheduled on the following working day.
Based on this arrangement:
- Compensatory leave for Lunar New Year’s Day (6 February, Saturday) and the second day of the Lunar New Year (7 February, Sunday) will be granted on 9 to 10 February (Tuesday and Wednesday).
- A compensatory day off for Children’s Day (4 April, Sunday) will be scheduled on 6 April (Tuesday) following Tomb Sweeping Day.
The DGPA emphasised that the calendar applies to civil servants within government agencies. Holidays for employees of public enterprises are generally expected to follow similar arrangements in principle.
