Activate Malaysian Driving Licence to qualify for BUDI95 subsidy in Malaysia: JPJ

Drivers must keep licences active within 36 months of the previous renewal date to qualify for BUDI95 subsidy.

Malaysia’s Road Transport Department (JPJ) has called on motorists to activate their Malaysian Driving Licence (LMM) to qualify for the BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) subsidy.

In a media statement on 26 March 2026, Director-General Aedy Fadly Ramli, JPJ said licence status is a key requirement to obtain the targeted subsidy initiative.

He said an LMM is considered active if it expires within 36 months from the previous renewal date. During this period, licence holders remain eligible for the BUDI95 subsidy and can renew their licence directly without additional testing.

However, if a driving licence has expired for more than 36 months, it will be classified as inactive. In such cases, the licence holder will no longer be eligible for the BUDI95 subsidy and will be required to retake the driving competency test at any driving institute before renewal.

As such, JPJ called on all Malaysian driving licence holders to renew their licences within the specified period to prevent them from becoming inactive.

At the same time, JPJ stressed that individuals must hold a valid, non-expired licence when driving a motor vehicle.
