Princeton Digital Group delivers Phase One of its flagship AI-ready data centre campus in Johor

Princeton Digital Group (PDG) has announced the official delivery of Phase One of its new JH1 data center campus, located in Sedenak Tech Park (STeP), Johor. The 150MW JH1 is PDG’s flagship AI-ready facility in Malaysia - one of the largest data center campuses in Southeast Asia- and will serve some of the world’s largest technology companies.

With this, PDG has realised an initial investment of RM2bn from a total investment commitment of RM7.1bn in just 12 months. Most notably, the facility has hired all Malaysian employees, of which 70% are from Johor.

The JH1 campus incorporates sustainable technologies and design. In particular, the rooftop will be utilised for generating renewable energy through the installation of solar panels. This follows, PDG's earlier acquirement of a RM1.276bn green loan for JH1 in May.

An event to celebrate this occasion was officiated by Menteri Besar of Johor, Onn Hafiz bin Ghazi, and Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Abdul Aziz.

Asher Ling, Chief Technology Officer, and Managing Director of Singapore, PDG emphasised the company’s commitment to expanding its presence in Malaysia: “It is a proud moment for PDG, delivering Phase One of JH1 today.

"However, establishing a state-of-the-art green data center campus like this goes beyond economic growth; it’s also about PDG’s commitment to nurturing talent and creating jobs in this rapidly growing industry. We are dedicated to equipping individuals with the skills they need to thrive as data center professionals and being strong contributors to the local Johor community.”

Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), Ts. Mahadhir Aziz, added: “This partnership aligns with the Malaysia Digital (MD) national strategic initiative, underscoring our commitment to nurturing talent, driving innovation, and establishing Malaysia as the digital hub of ASEAN.”

Minister Zafrul has also touched on digitisation as one of the cornerstones of Malaysia's New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP2030), in an effort to position Malaysia as a regional Generative AI hub.

"From 2021 to March 2024, the total number of approved digital investments amounted to almost RM162bn, with data center and cloud accounting for 76% or RM123bn of the total number of approved digital investments. These investments have generated nearly 3,700 job opportunities."
